Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this blog, MN! I'm pulling myself together for the ALA in San Francisco, where I'm looking forward to the Digital Americanists panels. I've also been thinking a lot lately about how digital scholarship breaks those of us at universities out of the ivory tower. Just this week someone from Erie, PA, emailed me to say that she owns a painting by one of the people featured on The Vault at Pfaff's who I didn't know was a painter! (It's Charles Pfaff himself, for those who are interested . . .) The stories about scholarly treasures hiding in people's attics that show up in History Detectives or A.S. Byatt's Possession can become reality when the public has access to our scholarship online. --Ed Whitley
